Max Schrems files a complaint against Apple before Spanish and German authorities for using iPhone users' personal data without their consent

(IDFA), a code of numbers and characters stored on the user's terminal.

Each iPhone runs on the iOS operating system, and by default, this generates a unique IDFA for each iPhone, allowing Apple and third parties (including application providers and advertisers) to track user behaviour and deliver personalized advertising.

The NOYB association considers that such tracking is strictly regulated by the e-Privacy Directive 2002/58/EC and requires unambiguous informed consent. Apple has indicated its willingness to modify the said system in order to restrict the use of the IDFA for third parties, but no modification seems to be planned for its own use. NOYB believes that IDFA should not only be restricted, but also permanently removed.
